Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance

Florence is an open-air museum that has an incredible concentration of works of art. A wonderful city that you never stop to discover. A timeless profile that leaves everyone breathless.

But we don’t have to imagine it like this from the beginning. Florence was founded in 59 BC on the banks of the river Arno, its initial shape reminds a military camp: a square with 4 doors and two main streets that cross each other in the city center forming a square called foro (the hole).

Over the centuries its walls widen as the population grows, its urban layout changes continually and magnificent public works embellish the city more and more to symbolize its greatness.

From small houses they move to tower houses and from tower houses they move to palaces.

In 1252 the Fiorino d’oro, the currency of Florence, became the first stable international currency affirming the economic and financial power of the city.

Thanks to the production of wool many Florentine families became rich, one of them was the Medici family that has always accompanied the history of Florence. Great patrons and lovers of art they will welcome in their courts the greatest and most capable artists, thinkers, writers, scientists. They will use their intellect to build great works and make Florence the cradle of the Renaissance.
